Part Reviews

These are reviews of Mustang parts submitted by members of the 5LMustang forum and myself.

Intake

Paxton SuperChargers (5LMustang)
One of the best and the support staff is really helpful.

Powerdyne SuperChargers (5LMustang)
This one was ordered though FORD and it was nothing but trouble. All major bearings had to be replaced after only 6000km.

Exhaust

Dynomax Exhaust (cat back) (5LMustang)
It fit together very well but I don't like the sound of the mufflers (sounds wimpy)

Flowmaster Mufflers (5LMustang)
Awesome sound and durability but a little pricey.

Off Road H-Pipe (no cats) (5LMustang)
Good quality, but it was a struggle to get it to line up with my headers.

Flowtech Headers (5LMustang)
Cheap but the quality of the welds and the general fit was bad. The shorties are okay, but I wouldn't put the equal length on my grandmothers pinto. They were made out of more pipe than I've laid and had welds all over.

Headman Headers (equal length) (5LMustang)
Excellent welds and bends, pretty cheap and fit good.

Engine

Edelbrock - 6037 Aluminum heads (Mad Dawg)
Direct bolt-on (easy install). I haven't had any problems with them, but Edelbrock used spring shims on their early Ford heads (a few years ago). Spring shims on aluminum heads = no no. The springs were eatting through the soft shims. I checked mine and they weren't chewing the shims {yet}, but I have less than 10k on the heads. I called Edelbrock to inquire about the problem and was very disappointed with the person I spoke to. He denied there being any such problem, but told me in the same sentence that the new heads have hardened spring cups,, Hmmm, they fixed a non-existent problem. Then he went into this spill about how their company like Fords (w/o me asking) and started stuttering, naming people that work there that drive Fords. By the end of the conversation, it was clear to me that Edelbrock is a Chevy based company with an idiot answering the phones.

Lokar - Universal Throttle Cable (BorgMoose007)
I bought this for the heap of customer's pontiac that I had in my garage for a month. the previous throttle cable was actually a length of Bike brake cable, and was hanging up. The Lokar installed almost effortlessly, the hardest thing to do was to cut the cable housing to proper length. It works beautifully.
Product info: high-strength cable, teflon-lined housing, detailed instructions

Brakes and Suspension

BBK Springs (5LMustang)
Excellent quality and durability and well worth the cost. Mine are quite old and the are still shinny blue!

KYB Shocks - rear (5LMustang)
Not much different that putting a 2x4 in place of your rear shocks but that's what they are supposed to be like. Only thing I didn't like was that the outside case rusts a bit soon after the install.

Clutch, Transmission and Rear-end

Center Force Clutches (5LMustang)
Excellent quality, but some of the higher performance parts are way over priced. I would definitely buy CENTERFORCE over ZOOM or MOTORSPORT

International Mustang - Street Cowl II (Fast_86_GT)
I installed my street cowl the other day. It fit great and the only problem was the windshield squirter wouldn't quite fit, but I sanded about 1/16 in. out and it worked great. I really like the way it looks. Check It Out.
